Excerpting I Am an Emotional Creature: The Secret Life of Girls Around the World

I whole heartily believe in this view...my only critique is that this poem in all it's beauty limits these feelings and emotions to women and girls...I believe it's greater than the confines of one's gender, rather, it is a human quality that many in today's world forget all too easily. This is not a gender related ideal, this is our humanity at play and I believe it is our call to reconnect to this sacred place that is often trumped by our cultural and social values that don't imagine the greater world in which we ought to live. I charge those of you who may read this not to EXCLUDE men from this ideal, this sacred space of which yes mostly women are privileged to know. This is not just an answer to our current needs as individuals, our yearning for a deeper part of ourselves and to be accepted for who WE are...but is a calling that we must stand strong in our attempts to demonstrate to the world that this is our innate being. That it’s not just about an individual’s right to have and be emotional, it is the answer to world peace, when there may be no logic behind love and care sometimes (how does the mother embrace the man that murdered her daughter? How does a nation split by apartheid develop the Truth and Reconciliation process?) We know within our hearts that it is the right thing to do.
